Comprising all 193 Member States of the UN<\/a>, it provides a unique forum for multilateral discussion of international issues including peace and security.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The World Meteorological Organization (WMO<\/a>)<\/strong> is an intergovernmental organization with a membership of 193 Member States and Territories.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC)<\/strong> established an international environmental treaty to combat “dangerous human interference with the climate system”, in part by stabilizing greenhouse gas concentrations in the atmosphere.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP<\/a>)<\/strong> is the leading environmental authority in the United Nations system. UNEP<\/a> uses its expertise to strengthen environmental standards and practices while helping implement environmental obligations at the country, regional and global levels.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

COP stands for Conference of the Parties<\/strong>, and the summit was attended by the countries that signed the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) – a treaty that came into force in 1994.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC<\/a>)<\/strong> is the United Nations body for assessing the science related to climate change. The IPCC<\/a> provides regular assessments of the scientific basis of climate change, its impacts and future risks, and options for adaptation and mitigation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
